Why More Adults are Seeking Orthodontics to Straighten Teeth

Lockdown has been a time of reflection it seems, particularly when it comes to our smiles. The British Orthodontic Society recently revealed that over three quarters of orthodontists had seen an increase in patients seeking orthodontics to straighten their teeth over the last twelve months, as the rapid rise in video calls drove many people to make a change to their teeth so they could feel more confident in seeing their smile.

At Riverside Dental Spa we have also had more enquiries from patients looking for invisible braces, such as Invisalign, over recent months. Many of these enquiries have been made during periods of lockdown, with people wanting to improve their smile ready for when restrictions ease.

So what do we think has fuelled the rise in enquiries?

More Mirror Time

It is completely normal during quieter periods in your life to take the time to assess your appearance - what you like and what you would change if you could. The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in many of these periods, with the various lockdowns and local restrictions giving us more time to look in the mirror and critique what we see.

Your smile is such an important part of your look and personality, but if you don’t like your crooked, gappy teeth, you probably won’t smile much. This can have some pretty devastating effects - lowering your immune system, negatively affecting the mood of those around you (yes, a smile really is contagious!) and increasing your stress levels.

Seeing Ourselves On-Screen

When the only way to communicate was via video call, we all had to get used to seeing ourselves on screen. For some people this has only increased insecurities about their smile. When you can’t see something in front of you, it’s easy to forget it, but being reminded about that gap between your teeth or those misaligned front incisors every time you connect with your family and friends can dent your confidence.

Spending Holiday Money

With many people unable to take a holiday in 2020 and travel plans still uncertain for 2021, there has been an increase in people spending their holiday money and savings on other things that can bring them happiness whilst they wait for travel to return safely. What better way to invest your hard earned money than by improving your smile and giving you back your confidence?

Our Teeth Straightening Treatments

If all those Zoom calls and the increased time in front of a mirror has put the focus on your smile and made you want to straighten your teeth, now is the time to find out more about the available orthodontic treatments.

At Riverside Dental Spa we offer two fantastic treatments to straighten your smile, quickly and discreetly. Choose from the ever-popular Invisalign - a system of clear, removable aligners that are changed every two weeks to gradually move your teeth into the desired position, or Six Month Smiles - an invisible system of fine brackets and wires that concentrates on realigning the front teeth, with results in as little as six months.

If you are looking for orthodontic treatment in London, or would like to find out more about the teeth straightening treatments we offer, please call us on 020 7091 0677 or request a free consultation with a member of our team.
