Summer Skin Care Tips from Riverside Dental Spa

You might not know that here at Riverside Dental Spa we can do more than just help to keep your teeth and gums in great shape.  We also offer a number of skin care treatments to rejuvenate tired skin and combat the signs of ageing.

In addition to our treatments, which include fillers, facials and the popular Obagi Blue Skin Peel, there are a number of things you can do at home to help keep your skin healthy.

Changing your skincare routine in the summer

When the seasons change, so too should your skincare routine – not massively, but just enough to take into account how the changing temperature and conditions can affect the skin.  Whilst you might be dreaming about sun-kissed skin and a healthy bronzed glow at this time of year (even if in reality your skin is some way off this dream!) we have put together some summer skin care tips to bring out the best from your skin during the hotter months:

  1. Go lightweight – during the winter months you might find yourself using a heavier moisturiser to combat the dryness caused by the cold weather and central heating. In the summer, when conditions are much less harsh, and we don’t have to rely on artificial heat, you might find your skin benefits from a lightweight moisturiser.
  2. Think protection – ideally you need to protect your skin from the sun all year round, which means using a moisturiser with SPF or applying sun cream on top. In reality, most people forget about SPF when the weather goes cooler, so if you ditched the sun protection during the winter and spring, now is definitely the time to make it part of your daily routine.
  3. Cover up – it is not enough to just use sun cream to protect your skin against the damage caused by exposure to the sun. You should avoid getting burned, and if you have fair skin, avoid getting tanned altogether because even this can do damage to your skin at a cellular level.
  4. Cool down – did you know that if you take a hot shower after exposing your skin to the sun you might do even more damage by further drying out your skin?  Try taking a cool shower instead to help keep skin clear and reduce acne breakouts.
