How To Get the Perfect Smile for Christmas

How To Get the Perfect Smile for Christmas

If you are worried about showing off your smile in front of your Christmas bubble or in the many video calls you’ll be making to your extended family and circle of friends this festive season, we’ve got some quick fixes for you.

Though it is difficult to rush your way to the perfect smile and many professional treatments take time to show results, there are some simple steps you can take to improve the appearance and health of your teeth and gums.  So, give yourself the best Christmas present - the ability to smile with more confidence.

Get whiter teeth in time for Christmas

Though the countdown is on to the festive season, we are still welcoming patients who are looking for treatments ahead of the celebrations. We offer patients two choices for teeth whitening - at home treatment which can start to show results in around 7-10 days from starting treatment, and in-practice teeth whitening in which results can be achieved in a one-hour appointment.

Having whiter teeth will give you more confidence to smile in photos and video calls this Christmas.

Keep up the great work with your oral health routine

Now is not the time to relax your oral health regime.  Ahead of the season of festive sweet treats, sugary drinks and regular snacking, it is important to remain as dedicated as ever to keeping your teeth and gums healthy. This means brushing and flossing twice a day - once before you go to bed and at one other time during the day.

You can also rinse your mouth with mouthwash after brushing as this helps to prevent plaque build up and prevent gum disease.

Use the correct toothbrush and toothpaste

It’s often overlooked, but if you are not using the right toothbrush and toothpaste, you may be putting your oral health and the overall appearance of your teeth at risk.  For the majority of people, a small compact head toothbrush with medium or soft bristles will enable you to brush effectively.  If you choose to use an electric toothbrush, those with oscillating or rotating heads may offer improved results over manual toothbrushes. Whatever type of brush you use, remember to brush all sides of the teeth, spending at least two minutes overall.

When it comes to toothpaste you should choose a fluoride toothpaste. It is recommended that adults use a toothpaste with at least 1,350 parts per million (ppm) fluoride. Children can use the same family toothpaste, but those under six without tooth decay can use a toothpaste with 1000 ppm fluoride.  Children under three should use a smear of toothpaste and it is recommended that younger children are always supervised when brushing.

Fluoride free toothpastes don’t protect you against dental cavities - which can not only cause you pain and discomfort but also leave unsightly pits, holes and staining on your teeth.

Choosing your toothpaste and toothbrush wisely will help to keep your teeth and gums healthy and looking great.
