Everything that’s great about Dental Veneers

Dental veneers can hide a multitude of dental imperfections.  Favoured by dentists and patients alike as a great way to improve the aesthetics and functionality of the smile, here are just three of the reasons why we think dental veneers are great:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

  • Veneers can be used to close gaps – if you have gaps between your teeth sometimes braces are the answer and sometimes not. Depending on the position of the teeth and the size of the gaps, veneers may be the best solution.  By fitting a porcelain layer over the front surface of your tooth, the overall effect can be dramatically improved as the teeth all appear to be evenly spaced.
  • Veneers can bring a wonky tooth into line – the overall appearance of your teeth might be good but if you have just one tooth that is out of line, it can make you feel self-conscious about your smile. If one tooth, for example, is set back from the others it may look as though you have a missing tooth, which may make you uncomfortable smiling in public or having your photo taken.  By fitting a veneer, the misaligned tooth can be made to look in line with the others and improve the overall appearance of the smile.
  • Veneers can lighten your teeth – Where some of the teeth are discoloured and a more permanent solution to tooth whitening is required, a precise shade of porcelain can be chosen to fit over the front surface of the discoloured tooth or teeth to lighten the smile and provide a more uniform appearance.

How do veneers work?

Veneers are made up of a thin layer of porcelain, which is colour-matched to accommodate the surrounding teeth and fitted to the front surface of the tooth.  Sometimes it is necessary for some of the outer, shiny layer of enamel to be removed from the tooth first in order to give a natural and comfortable finish to the veneered tooth.

Generally, it takes two visits to your dentist to firstly prepare the tooth and then bond the veneer to the tooth using strong adhesive.

Once fitted your veneer should last for many years and give you an improved smile, that you can be more confident in.
