Dental Veneers: Frequently Asked Questions

Dental Veneers: Frequently Asked Questions

Dental veneers are amongst the most popular cosmetic treatments we offer at Riverside Dental Spa, providing great results for our patients. Here we answer some of the questions we are most frequently asked about the procedure and how it can help you to achieve a whiter, straighter smile:

1. What are dental veneers?

Fitted to the external surface of the tooth, veneers are a very thin layer of coloured porcelain or composite material that are put in place to improve the external appearance of teeth.

2. When are dental veneers required?

Veneers are chosen to provide an improved appearance for teeth that are either blemished by staining or have become cracked or broken. It is also common for veneers to be used to cover large gaps between the teeth.

3. Why do patients choose dental veneers?

Veneers are popular because they give the teeth a natural and healthy look almost instantly and require very little preparation before treatment begins.

4. How are the teeth prepared for dental veneers?

A tiny layer of enamel is removed from the surface of the teeth so that the veneer can be fitted without making the tooth feel too bulbous. Once the teeth have been prepared, an impression of each tooth will be made so that a customised veneer layer can be made for fitting.

A dental technician will then prepare the fittings and apply a colour to each veneer that matches the surrounding teeth, helping to give the finished veneers a natural appearance.

5. How long does treatment take?

When the veneers have been made, there is a short process required to bond the veneer to the teeth using a specially formulated adhesive. Your dentist will show you how the first fitting looks to check you are happy, before completing the application.

6. How long can dental veneers last for?

Veneers have a long life-span, especially if they are well cared for, but can chip or crack in the same way natural teeth can. If this happens dental veneers can be easily fixed or replaced.
